New Barn Owl Habitat at Coed Ty Llwyd
We’re excited to share the latest update from our small woodland in north Cardiff, Coed Ty Llwyd. We manage this special space not only to enhance its biodiversity but also to provide the community with access to nature. From maintaining the footpaths to creating a welcoming environment for wildlife, Coed Ty Llwyd is a haven for both people and animals alike.
We recently dropped a diseased Ash tree on one of the main paths- and inside the trunk was this stunning and uncommon mushroom Pleurotus dyinus - Veiled Oyster (Thanks for the ID Emma from Coal Spoil Fungi!)

Our latest project focuses on supporting local barn owls. After sourcing materials, we recently built and installed a barn owl box at the woodland’s edge. This carefully chosen location, near a field full of rich hunting grounds, will provide a suitable breeding habitat for barn owls in the area. It’s part of our ongoing effort to ensure wildlife can thrive, and we are thrilled to take another step toward that goal.
The conservation work we do is made possible by proceeds from our courses, so every time you participate, you’re helping us continue these vital projects.
